Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

Friendly, practical help with repairs and upkeep for houses, cottages and farm properties in and around the small village of Ulgham, near Morpeth.
Ulgham is a small, peaceful village in the countryside north of Morpeth, and its residents often tell us how hard it is to find tradespeople willing to come out for smaller jobs. That's exactly where we fit in. Handyman Ashington has been a family-run business since 2018, and we're happy to make the trip for repairs that bigger firms tend to turn down.
The village lies roughly five miles from our base in Ashington, so it's a short, easy drive out through Longhirst. We often look after several Ulgham households over the course of a month, with jobs ranging from fence repairs and hedge trimming to assembling wardrobes, re-sealing kitchens and fixing doors.

Ulgham is a quiet farming village with a small cluster of homes around its church, surrounded by open fields and a few outlying farmsteads. The housing is mostly older stone cottages and farmhouses, some barn conversions, and later-built houses and bungalows. It feels a world away from the busier towns nearby, even though the A1 and the coast are both close.
Homes like these come with their own list of upkeep. Many have long boundaries of fencing, hedges and dry-stone or brick walls to look after. Exposed sites mean the wind tests gates, shed doors and roof felt every winter. Older cottages with thick walls can suffer from condensation and peeling paint in kitchens and bathrooms, and their doors and windows often warp slightly with the seasons.
Barn conversions bring a different set of jobs, with exposed beams, large timber doors and high ceilings that make decorating or fitting curtain rails a two-person task. Being out in the country, some properties also rely on outdoor lighting and good locks for security, so we're regularly asked to improve both.
Rural homes need strong boundaries and secure outbuildings, so fencing, gates and timber repairs under our carpentry and joinery service make up a big share of our Ulgham work. We fix and re-hang gates, replace posts and rails, and repair shed and stable-style doors.
Security is the next most common request. Through our home security service we fit better locks, door chains, window locks and security lights, and we can mount cameras or doorbells where wiring isn't needed.
Big gardens keep our gardening services busy with hedge cutting, clearing overgrowth and keeping paths open. Inside, we're often booked for kitchen repairs: re-hanging cupboard doors, replacing worn hinges, re-sealing worktops and fixing leaking sink waste.
Plenty of Ulgham visits combine an outdoor job with something inside, which suits customers who'd rather deal with one handyman than chase several trades. It also means we can spot related problems, such as a gate post loosening the fence beside it, and sort both together.
Good to know
Yes. We can replace an existing outdoor light with a motion-sensor floodlight or fit battery and solar models where there's no supply. New outdoor circuits are notifiable, so that part would be done or signed off by a registered electrician.
We repair and re-hang timber gates of most sizes, including field-style gates near the house. Heavy steel agricultural gates or posts set in concrete over a large span may need a specialist, and we'll tell you if so.
Not at all. Plenty of Ulgham properties are set back from the road. Just tell us about any gates, cattle grids or soft ground so we can plan the van and bring tools to the door without causing any damage.
We can. Tall windows and timber or stone walls need the right fixings and sometimes extended brackets. We'll measure carefully, check what's behind the surface and make sure heavy curtains are well supported.
Yes. Ulgham is around five miles from our Ashington base and sits within our usual area, alongside Longhirst, Widdrington and Linton Colliery. We're happy to come out for single jobs or longer visits.
Services
Every service below is available in Ulgham and the villages around it. Tap one for the full details.
From Ashington we drive west out towards Longhirst and then follow the lanes north to Ulgham, which takes around ten to fifteen minutes. Parking is usually straightforward on a driveway or in a farmyard, but let us know if access is down a narrow track or through a gate that needs to be opened.
Book by calling 07960 485 880 or using the contact form. We encourage Ulgham customers to group several jobs together, since a longer visit lets us tackle outdoor and indoor work in one day. Photos of anything unusual, like a sagging gate or damaged shed, help us bring the right materials.
Reviews
Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

Rural properties often have a mix of small jobs across joinery, plumbing, decorating and garden work. Booking one handyman means one visit, one point of contact and less waiting around for different people to come out from town. For bigger specialist jobs we'll be upfront that you need a dedicated trade.
Yes. We replace cylinder locks, mortice locks and handles, fit door chains and add window locks. If you've just moved to Ulgham and don't know who has keys, changing the locks is a sensible first step and usually a quick job for us.
We can scrape back flaking paint, treat mould spots, fill and repaint, and fit or replace extractor fans to improve ventilation. If the cause looks like rising or penetrating damp, we'll recommend getting a specialist survey before redecorating, so the new finish isn't wasted.
Certainly. We assemble wardrobes, beds, desks, drawers and garden furniture, and fix tall items to the wall for safety. Our flat-pack assembly service suits people furnishing a new home or barn conversion where carrying and building heavy pieces is a struggle.
Call us on 07960 485 880 or fill in our website form with your address and a description of the work. We'll ask a few questions, perhaps request photos, and then explain the likely time involved and when we can next visit the village.
