Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

A local, family-run handyman service for Linton and its neighbouring coastal villages, covering everything from bathroom repairs to garden clear-ups and home security.
Linton Colliery, often just called Linton, is a small former mining village just over three miles north of our Ashington base. Handyman Ashington has been helping homeowners around the area since 2018, and Linton is part of a cluster of villages, including Ellington, Lynemouth and Cresswell, that we visit very regularly.
In a close-knit place like Linton, word of mouth counts for a lot. Residents ask us for straightforward, honest help with jobs around the house and garden: reseal a bath, fix a gate, put up a security light, repaint a hallway. As a family business ourselves, we understand that people want someone dependable who turns up, does the job properly and is easy to deal with.

Linton grew up around its colliery in the early twentieth century, and the village is still built mainly from the rows of brick terraced homes put up for miners and their families, alongside some later council housing and bungalows. Since the pit closed, many of these houses have been modernised in stages by successive owners.
The village sits in open countryside close to the coast, between the A1068 and Druridge Bay, so homes catch the salty, blustery weather coming off the North Sea. Exterior paint fades and flakes more quickly, metal fittings such as gate latches and hinges can corrode, and fences and sheds take regular knocks from the wind.
Inside, the terraces share familiar issues with colliery housing across the region: rear extensions that house the bathroom or kitchen, plaster that has cracked over time, older doors that no longer fit their frames, and pipework that has been added in a hurry. Many owners are steadily improving their homes room by room, which suits a handyman approach well.
Bathrooms in rear extensions are a common focus. We replace failed silicone, refix loose tiles, swap old taps and shower heads and sort out toilets that run or leak, all covered on our bathroom repairs page.
Being out in open country, many residents want their homes to feel more secure. Our home security service includes upgrading locks, fitting door chains and viewers, securing sheds and adding outdoor lights.
Gardens in Linton take a battering from coastal winds, so we often repair fences and gates and tidy overgrown plots through our gardening services.
Minor electrical jobs also come up regularly, such as replacing tired light fittings, swapping sockets and switches like-for-like, and fitting extractor fans in bathrooms and kitchens. Any notifiable work under Part P is carried out by, or signed off by, a registered electrician.
Good to know
Yes. Locally most people just call it Linton. It sits between Ellington and Widdrington Station in the NE61 postcode area, and we cover the whole village and the surrounding farms. Local farms are included.
Being close to the coast, Linton homes get wind-driven rain and salty air. Poor preparation or the wrong paint makes it worse. We sand back, prime and use exterior-grade products so the finish lasts longer.
Yes. Coastal air speeds up corrosion on metal fittings. We replace latches, hinges and bolts with galvanised or stainless versions and adjust the gate so it closes cleanly again. A little grease each spring helps them last.
Very often. These villages are only a few minutes from Linton and from our Ashington base, so they are part of our regular round. Widdrington Station and Ulgham are also covered.
Of course. We regularly help elderly residents with things like changing bulbs in awkward fittings, fitting grab rails or fixing a sticking door. Family members can book on their behalf and we will keep them updated.

Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

Yes. We replace euro cylinder locks, mortice locks, handles and letterboxes on most standard doors, and can recommend higher-security options. If your door or frame is badly damaged, we will explain whether a repair or replacement makes more sense. Ask us about anti-snap cylinders.
We can adjust uPVC doors that have dropped, replace handles and hinges, and fix minor mechanism problems. For failed double-glazed units, our glaziers service can arrange replacement glass to fit your existing frames. Window restrictors and trickle vents can also be fitted or replaced on most frames.
Yes. Linton is close to our base and on our regular route along the coast, so even quick jobs are welcome. If you have a couple of other small tasks, adding them to the visit makes it even more worthwhile.
We do. Our jet washing removes moss, algae and grime from drives, paths, patios and decking, which builds up quickly in the damp coastal climate. We can also re-sand block paving joints afterwards if needed. Weeds between paving slabs can be cleared at the same time.
