Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

Pegswood sits just three miles from our Ashington base, so help with repairs, fitting and everyday household jobs is never far away.
Pegswood lies on the A197 between Ashington and Morpeth, around three miles from where we are based, which makes it one of the closest villages we cover. Handyman Ashington is a family-run team working across the area since 2018, and we are in Pegswood most weeks, often stopping by on the way to or from Morpeth.
Our customers here range from long-standing residents in the original pit housing to families who have recently moved into the new estates. The jobs vary just as much: building furniture, fixing leaking taps, hanging doors, painting rooms and sorting the odd jobs that build up in any busy household. Whatever the task, we aim to turn up when we say, do it properly and leave things tidy.

Like Ashington, Pegswood grew around its colliery, and the oldest part of the village still has rows of brick terraced houses built for mining families. The pit closed decades ago, and since then the village has expanded with council and private housing, and more recently with sizeable new-build estates that have attracted commuters working in Morpeth, Newcastle and beyond. The railway station on the East Coast Main Line adds to its appeal.
The older terraces are solid, but after a century or more they tend to need attention to doors, stairs, internal plaster and bathrooms that were added at the back long after the houses were built. Pipework in these homes is often surface-mounted and tired-looking.
In the new estates, the work is different. New owners want blinds, curtain poles, shelving and mirrors put up, wardrobes and beds assembled, and gardens turned from bare turf into something usable. Builders' snagging lists, such as doors that do not close cleanly or silicone that has failed, are another regular source of work.
New-build homes mean plenty of flat-pack assembly. We build wardrobes, bunk beds, desks, sideboards and garden furniture, and fix tall items safely to the wall.
Small plumbing jobs are another staple. Our plumbing service covers dripping taps, running toilets, leaky waste pipes, shower replacements and plumbing in washing machines and dishwashers, all without any gas or boiler work.
Families with young children often ask for babyproofing, including stair gates, cupboard locks, window restrictors and anchoring furniture, which is especially popular in the newer estates where many young families have moved in.
In the older terraced streets, painting and decorating is in steady demand, from freshening up a single bedroom to tackling stairwells and hallways that are awkward to reach without the right ladders and steps.
Good to know
Many snags are straightforward, such as adjusting doors, resealing baths, fixing loose trims or filling cracks. If the house is still within the builder's warranty period, check what they will cover first, then we can handle the rest.
Yes. We fit pressure-mounted and screw-fixed stair gates, choosing the right type for the top or bottom of the stairs. We can also add cupboard catches and window restrictors during the same visit.
Yes. Exposed pipes are common in older Pegswood terraces. We build neat timber boxing with access panels where needed, then paint it to blend in with the room. It is a tidy finish that still lets you reach valves.
We do. Longhirst, Bothal, Hebron and the countryside around Pegswood are all close to our base, so they are easy to fit into our usual round. Morpeth itself is also on our list.
We can help with fencing repairs, putting up gates, assembling sheds and garden furniture, clearing and planting borders, and cleaning patios. Larger landscaping projects may need a specialist landscaper. We will tell you honestly if so.

Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

Pegswood is only about three miles from our base, so travel is never the hold-up. Availability depends on how busy our diary is, but we are often in the area and can sometimes offer a slot sooner than you might expect.
Yes. We connect appliances to existing water and waste points, and can add new valves or adjust pipework where needed. If an appliance needs a new electrical supply, that work is done or signed off by a registered electrician. We check for leaks before we leave.
We can take on a full interior repaint or tackle it room by room. We protect floors and furniture, fill and prepare surfaces properly and use paints suited to each room, including moisture-resistant finishes for bathrooms. Woodwork and doors can be glossed at the same time.
Absolutely. Let us know what you have bought, and we will build it, place it where you want it and take the packaging away if needed. Multiple items can be done in a single visit. Wall anchoring kits supplied with the furniture are fitted as standard.
It means we are happy to come out for something like fitting a curtain pole or replacing a toilet seat. Of course, if you have other small tasks, adding them to the visit gets more done in one go. Nothing is too fiddly.
