Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

Careful, family-run handyman help for Stannington village and the surrounding countryside, covering plumbing fixes, decorating, doors and all those jobs that keep getting put off.
Stannington is a historic village just off the A1, south of Morpeth, and it lies around 6.3 miles from our base in Ashington. We cover the village itself, Stannington Station and the scattered homes and farms nearby. Since 2018 our family-run business has built its work on turning up when we say we will and doing small jobs as well as we do the larger ones.
Stannington customers often call us about leaking taps, tired paintwork, sticking doors and furniture that needs building. Some are commuters into Newcastle who struggle to find time for home upkeep; others are long-standing residents who would rather hand over the ladder work.

Stannington village has a strong traditional character, with sandstone cottages and houses grouped around its parish church, alongside later homes added through the twentieth century and some newer properties. A short distance away, Stannington Station has its own cluster of houses near the railway line. Beyond both, the land is open farmland with isolated farmsteads.
In the older stone properties, the jobs that come up tend to involve timber and plaster: doors and windows that have shifted, floorboards that creak, skirting that has been painted many times over, and plaster that cracks when fittings are added. Chimney breasts and alcoves make for good fitted shelving, but walls are rarely square.
Later houses bring more routine upkeep, such as bathrooms and kitchens that need resealing, outdated fittings and decorating. The village is close to a busy trunk road and surrounded by fields, so external paintwork, gutters and fences pick up dust, leaves and grime, and gardens with mature trees need regular attention.
Plumbing repairs are a steady source of calls. Through our plumbing service we fix dripping taps, sort running toilets, fit new taps and connect washing machines and dishwashers, all without any gas or boiler work.
Painting and decorating is the next most popular, whether refreshing a cottage bedroom, repainting window frames or covering patched plaster once a repair has been made.
We are often asked to ease and rehang doors or fit new handles and locks through our doors and windows work, which matters in older homes where frames have moved over the years.
Then there is the general list, covered by our odd jobs service: putting up curtain rails and blinds, hanging artwork, fixing a loose bannister, replacing a broken cupboard hinge or assembling a new garden bench. These are exactly the tasks larger firms skip, and we are happy to do them properly.
Good to know
Yes. Stannington Station, the village and the farms and houses around them are all within our area. They are only a couple of miles apart, so we often visit both in the same day.
We regularly work on older homes and take a careful approach. If your property is listed, please tell us; some changes need consent, and we will keep to like-for-like repairs unless you have the necessary permissions.
Many customers leave a key or use a key safe. We are happy to agree arrangements in advance, send you a message when we arrive and finish, and leave the house secure and tidy.
A running toilet usually points to a worn flush valve seal or a faulty fill valve. Both are routine repairs for us, and fixing them can also stop wasted water. Book a visit and we will sort it.
We can trim hedges and shrubs, clear leaves and cut back overgrown areas. For large trees, especially near roads or power lines, we will recommend a qualified tree surgeon rather than taking risks.

Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

Yes. We fit kitchen and bathroom taps, replace toilets and cisterns and fix leaks on waste and supply pipes. We do not do any gas or boiler work, so if hot water problems point to the boiler we will suggest you contact a qualified heating engineer instead.
We do minor electrical work such as like-for-like socket and switch replacements, new light fittings, extractor fans and outdoor lights. Any notifiable work under Part P is carried out by, or signed off by, a registered electrician, keeping your home safe and compliant.
Yes. We use dust sheets, tidy as we go and leave the room as we found it, minus the problem. Small amounts of waste from the job, like packaging and offcuts, can go in our van, so you are not left with a pile of rubbish to deal with.
