Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

A family-run handyman team based just over the Wansbeck in Ashington, helping Guide Post households with repairs, fitting jobs and the small tasks that pile up.
Handyman Ashington has been helping homeowners, tenants and landlords around the Wansbeck since 2018, and Guide Post is one of the closest places we work. It sits only about two miles south of our Ashington base, across the river, so a visit here rarely means a long wait or a lengthy drive for us.
We are a family-run team and we genuinely mean it when we say no job is too small. In Guide Post that often means a dripping kitchen tap, a back door that has dropped on its hinges, a few pictures and a mirror to hang, or a wardrobe that arrived in forty pieces. We also take on larger work such as replacing skirting, patching plaster or freshening up a hallway with paint. If you have a list rather than a single task, tell us about all of it and we will plan the time properly.

Guide Post grew up alongside neighbouring Choppington and Scotland Gate as part of the old mining landscape south of the Wansbeck, and the housing still reflects that history. You will find brick terraces and former colliery cottages, rows of council-built semis from the middle of the last century, and newer private estates added on the edges of the village in more recent decades.
Each type brings its own small headaches. Older terraces tend to have timber sash or early uPVC windows that need new seals, handles or hinges, and internal doors that have shifted as the building settled. Mid-century semis often have original pipework running along walls and through cupboards, which is why boxing in and tidying up plumbing comes up so often here. On the newer estates the issues are different: settlement cracks in fresh plaster, doors that need planing once the heating has dried the timber, and garden fences that were installed quickly by the developer.
Guide Post is inland, so salt spray is less of a concern than on the coast, but the exposed open ground between here and the river means fences, gates and shed roofs take a battering in winter storms.
Most calls from Guide Post fall into a few familiar groups, and they line up closely with the kind of houses in the village.
We also get plenty of requests from people moving into the village who want everything sorted in one go: curtain poles up, flat-pack built, a few shelves fitted and a smoke alarm changed. That kind of moving-in list suits us well, because it lets us bring the right fixings and get the house feeling settled in a single visit.
Good to know
Yes. Guide Post is around two miles from our base in Ashington, which makes it one of our closest villages. We work here regularly and often combine visits with jobs in Choppington, Scotland Gate and Stakeford on the same day.
We cover the NE62 villages around Guide Post, including Choppington, Scotland Gate, Stakeford and West Sleekburn. If your address is on the edge of the area, give us a call and we will confirm before booking anything.
Usually, yes. For most indoor repairs we only need to carry tools through the front door. For bulkier jobs such as fence panels or a new worktop, let us know about access in advance so we can bring the right size of materials.
Many Guide Post customers leave a key with a neighbour or family member. We are happy to work that way for straightforward jobs, as long as we have agreed exactly what needs doing beforehand and you are reachable by phone.
Either works. We can supply standard fixings, washers, seals and fittings, or fit items you have already chosen, such as a new tap or light fitting. If you are buying, send us the product details first so we can check it suits your home.
Services
Every service below is available in Guide Post and the villages around it. Tap one for the full details.
From Ashington we head south over the river towards Choppington and Stakeford, and the drive usually takes only a few minutes outside the morning rush. Because we are so close, we can often fit Guide Post jobs in around other work nearby.
Most streets in the village have on-street parking or a driveway we can use, but if access is tight, for example in a terrace with no rear lane, just mention it when you book. The easiest way to arrange a visit is to call 07960 485 880 or use our contact form with a short description and a couple of photos. If you have several small tasks, list them all so we can price and plan one visit rather than three.
Reviews
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.
Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
