A kitchen does not have to be falling apart to be annoying. One door that drops every time you open it, a drawer that comes off its runners or a worktop joint that has started to swell can make the busiest room in the house feel tired. The good news is that most of these faults can be fixed in a single visit, often for far less than people expect.
Since 2018 our family-run team has been repairing and fitting kitchens in homes around Ashington, Newbiggin, Blyth and the villages in between. We work on everything from older solid-wood units to modern flat-pack ranges bought from the big DIY stores. If the carcasses are sound, we will usually suggest repairing or updating rather than ripping everything out. If you have decided it is time for a new kitchen, we can fit it for you, and our carpentry and joinery skills come in handy for the awkward corners.
Kitchen repairs and upgrades

Here are the kitchen jobs we are asked about most often:
- Doors and hinges: adjusting or replacing worn concealed hinges so doors close square, and fitting replacement or new-style doors to existing units.
- Drawers: repairing broken drawer boxes, fitting new runners and replacing loose or damaged fronts.
- Worktops: replacing damaged sections, re-sealing joints and edges, or fitting new laminate or solid wood worktops throughout.
- Sinks and taps: fitting new sinks and mixer taps, fixing leaking wastes and traps, and plumbing in washing machines and dishwashers.
- Finishing touches: new handles, kickboards, cornice and pelmet, shelving, splashbacks and sealing around the hob area.
We do not connect gas cookers or hobs. If your new kitchen includes a gas appliance, that final connection must be made by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we are happy to work around their visit.
Fitting a new kitchen: what to expect

When you are planning a new kitchen, we start by measuring the room and talking through how you use it. You can buy units from your preferred supplier and we will fit them, or we can help you check a supplier's plan before you order so nothing arrives the wrong size.
A typical fit runs in this order:
- Strip out the old units and worktops, and cap off services safely.
- Make good walls and floors where needed so new units sit level.
- Assemble and fix base and wall units, checking every line with a level.
- Cut and fit worktops, sink and hob cut-outs, then seal all edges.
- Fit doors, drawers, handles and plinths, and connect the sink and plumbed appliances.
Any new sockets or lighting circuits are handled by, or signed off by, a registered electrician. We will give you a realistic timetable at the start so you can plan meals around the work.
Repair or replace? A few practical pointers
Before you commit to a full new kitchen, it is worth checking whether the bones of your current one are still good. Open each cupboard and look at the sides and base. If the board is firm and dry, the units can usually be kept and given a new look with fresh doors, handles and worktops.
Replacement is more likely to make sense when:
- The chipboard under the sink has swollen and crumbled from a long-term leak.
- Several units have come away from the wall or are badly out of level.
- The layout simply does not suit how you cook or the appliances you own.
A small tip for keeping worktops in good shape: wipe up water around the sink straight away and avoid putting hot pans directly on laminate. Most worktop damage we see starts with a bit of water creeping into an unsealed edge or joint and slowly swelling the board.

FAQs
Kitchen Repairs: your questions answered
Can you fit a kitchen I have bought myself?
Yes, and many of our customers do exactly that. Order your units from whichever supplier you like and we will assemble and fit them. We recommend we measure up before you order, as walls in older Northumberland houses are rarely perfectly straight and a few millimetres can make a big difference to how units and worktops fit.
Can you just replace the doors and keep my old units?
Often, yes. If the carcasses are solid, new doors and drawer fronts can transform the room at a fraction of the cost of a new kitchen. Standard sizes are widely available, and we will check your hinge type and measure every door carefully so the new fronts line up properly once fitted.
Do you connect gas hobs and cookers?
No. We do not carry out any gas work. Gas appliances must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We can fit the worktop cut-out and surrounding units, then leave the hob ready for the engineer to connect, and we can help you plan the timing so the job flows smoothly.
My cupboard door keeps dropping. Can it be fixed?
Usually it is a simple fix. Most modern doors use adjustable concealed hinges, and a few turns of the right screws will bring the door back in line. If a hinge is broken or its screws have torn out of the chipboard, we replace the hinge or repair the fixing so it holds properly again.
How long does it take to fit a new kitchen?
It depends on the size of the room and how much else is involved, such as tiling, electrical work or moving plumbing. A straightforward fit of a small to medium kitchen often takes several days. We will give you a realistic timetable after seeing the room, and we keep you updated if anything changes.
