Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

Careful, tidy handyman work for the larger family homes of Loansdean, from fitting new internal doors and decorating to garden jobs and furniture assembly.
Loansdean is the leafy residential area on the south-western side of Morpeth, and it is a little over five miles from our base in Ashington. That is still a short drive for us, and we visit homes here and in the rest of Morpeth throughout the year.
Handyman Ashington is a family-run team that started in 2018. In Loansdean we tend to be asked for slightly more involved jobs than in some of our other areas: replacing a run of internal doors, building fitted shelving into an alcove, redecorating a large hallway and landing, or tackling the garden after a busy summer. We still happily come out for the small things too, whether that is a stiff lock, a wobbly banister or a single blind to fit.

Loansdean is mostly made up of private houses built from the middle of the twentieth century onwards, with a good share of detached homes and bungalows set in generous gardens. Some later infill and extended properties sit among the originals, so styles and ages vary more from street to street than in a planned estate.
Homes of this kind often still have original features that are starting to show their age. Timber door frames and skirting can be scuffed and shrunk after decades of central heating, older internal doors may stick or fail to latch, and garage doors and side gates frequently need attention. Many owners are also gradually updating bathrooms and kitchens, which brings smaller jobs like new taps, cupboard doors, worktop joints and sealant.
The larger gardens are a big part of living here. Hedges, mature trees and long fence lines all need regular care, and patios and driveways can turn green under shade. Being on the edge of Morpeth, with open countryside close by, also means plenty of wind across the higher ground, so fence panels and shed roofs can need repair after storms. It is a pleasant, settled area, and most of the work we do here is about keeping well-loved homes in good order.
Our Loansdean work leans towards carpentry, decorating and garden upkeep.
A growing number of Loansdean customers are older homeowners who want help with jobs they used to do themselves, such as climbing a ladder to clear a gutter or moving heavy furniture to paint behind it. We are glad to take those on and will always talk the job through with you first.
Good to know
Yes. Loansdean is around five miles from our Ashington base and is part of our regular Morpeth area. We also cover Kirkhill, Stobhill, High Church and the surrounding villages such as Hepscott, Mitford and Tranwell.
Yes. We measure each opening individually, because older frames are rarely perfectly square, then trim, hang and fit the new doors with handles and latches. If you want them painted or stained, we can finish them on site.
Of course. We are used to working in homes where someone is at home all day. We explain what we are doing, keep walkways clear, and are happy to speak to a family member on the phone if they have arranged the work.
We can tackle overgrown borders, hedges and lawns, and remove the green waste where agreed. For very large gardens we may suggest splitting the work over more than one visit so we can do it thoroughly rather than in a rush.
Yes. We cover floors and furniture with dust sheets, mask off edges and fittings, and move smaller items out of the way. At the end of each day we tidy up so the room is still usable if the work runs over more than one day.

We reach Loansdean from Ashington by heading west towards Morpeth on the A197, then following the main road round the south side of the town. Outside the school run the journey is quick and predictable.
Most houses here have their own driveway, which makes unloading ladders, timber and doors easy. If yours does not, let us know and we will plan around it. To book, call 07960 485 880 or send details through our contact page. Larger homes often have a long list of small tasks, so it is worth writing everything down; we can then group the work sensibly and do as much as possible in one well-planned day.
Reviews
Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

We handle a wide range, from single repairs to multi-day jobs such as decorating several rooms, replacing doors throughout a house or fitting out a utility room. For work that needs a specialist, such as structural alterations or gas work, we will say so and point you in the right direction.
Yes. We assemble garden furniture, storage boxes and smaller timber or metal sheds, and make sure they sit on a level base. We can also fix them down securely, which matters on higher ground around Morpeth where the wind can be strong.
These are some of the most common small jobs we do. We check what the wall is made of first, use the right fixings for plasterboard or masonry, and make sure everything is level. Grouping them into one visit saves you time and cost.
We swap light fittings, replace sockets and switches like for like and fit extractor fans. If the job turns out to be notifiable under Part P, for example new circuits, it is carried out by, or signed off by, a registered electrician. We never undertake gas work.
Prices depend on the time and materials each job needs, so we do not publish a fixed rate. Send us a description and photos, or call 07960 485 880, and we will give you a clear quote. For larger jobs we may suggest a short visit to look first.
