Resealing a leaking shower tray
A typical bathroom job: water marks appearing on a downstairs ceiling below a shower, traced to failed sealant and a tired waste seal, put right in a single visit.

From stone cottages beside the Coquet to modern family houses, we help Felton homeowners with repairs, decorating, joinery and the jobs that keep getting put off.
Felton sits on the River Coquet, about ten miles north of our Ashington base, and it is one of the larger villages we serve in the NE65 area. Handyman Ashington is a family-run team that has been looking after homes across Northumberland since 2018, and we make regular trips up to Felton, Swarland and the surrounding countryside.
Being a little further out, Felton residents often tell us it is hard to find someone willing to travel for smaller tasks. We are glad to do it. Our work here covers everything from fixing sash cords and easing doors in older properties to assembling furniture, decorating and tidying gardens for newer homes. If it is on your list, there is a good chance it is on ours too.

Felton has a long history as a crossing point on the Coquet, and its old stone bridge is still the heart of the village. Many of the older houses near the river and along the main street are built of local sandstone with slate roofs, some dating back well over a century. Around them you will find twentieth-century bungalows and semis, plus newer housing that has been added as the village has grown.
Stone properties bring particular needs. Thick walls can make fixing shelves and brackets trickier, timber windows and doors need regular painting to keep the weather out, and older outbuildings often have doors and frames that have rotted at the base. Damp in the lower corners of rooms is common in traditional houses, so we often repaint with suitable products once the cause has been dealt with.
Newer homes in Felton are generally low-maintenance but still generate work: wardrobes to assemble, curtain poles and blinds to fit, garden fences and gates to put up, and the little finishing jobs that tend to be left after moving in.
Timber work is at the top of the list in Felton. Through our carpentry and joinery service we repair window sills, replace rotten sections of door frames, put up shelving in alcoves and fit new skirting where old boards have been damaged.
Outside, the village's generous gardens keep us busy with hedge trimming, clearing and planting through our gardening services. Painting exterior woodwork, gates and garden furniture is another seasonal favourite, usually booked through our painting and decorating team once the weather settles.
Plenty of Felton customers also use us for general odd jobs: hanging pictures and mirrors, fixing loose bannisters, replacing door handles, putting up coat hooks and fitting draught excluders. Because we are travelling a fair distance, we bring a well-stocked van so that most of these can be finished during the same visit.
Good to know
Yes. West Thirston and the homes across the bridge are part of our Felton round, as are nearby spots such as Swarland, Acklington and Guyzance. If you are in the NE65 area near the A1, ask us.
We can. Older Felton walls often need different fixings and a bit more care when drilling. We use plugs and anchors suited to stone and lime-based plaster, so shelves and TV brackets stay firmly in place.
There is no strict minimum. However, because of the travel time, many customers find it makes sense to put together a list of tasks so a single trip covers as much as possible.
Late spring through early autumn is ideal, when surfaces are dry and temperatures are mild. Those months fill up quickly, so it helps to get in touch early in the year to secure a slot.
Often, yes. Depending on how far the rot has spread, we can cut out and splice in new timber or replace the sill completely, then prime and paint it to protect it from further weather damage.
Services
Every service below is available in Felton and the villages around it. Tap one for the full details.
To reach Felton from Ashington we normally take the A197 across to Morpeth and then head north on the A1, leaving at the Felton junction. Alternatively, the A1068 north through Widdrington and Acklington brings us in from the east. Either way, the journey usually takes around twenty minutes.
Parking is rarely an issue in the village, although some lanes near the river are narrow, so let us know if access is awkward. Call 07960 485 880 or send us a message to book. As Felton is one of our longer trips, combining several jobs into a single half day or full day is the most efficient way to work.
Reviews
Fantastic experience from the first enquiry through to completion. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole process was handled professionally. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a dependable service in Ashington.
We were really pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail on our IKEA flat-pack furniture. We were missing some parts, and the guys had them in their tool bag. A reliable local service we’d definitely use again.
Excellent service from start to finish. The team was friendly, professional and made everything straightforward. I’d happily recommend them to anyone in Ashington and the surrounding area.

We do. Felton is around ten miles from our Ashington base and well within our regular area. We visit the village and surrounding Coquet valley often, so it is never a problem to add your address to the diary. Swarland, Thirston and Acklington are covered too.
Yes. Our flat-pack assembly service covers wardrobes, beds, chests of drawers, desks and garden furniture. We can also secure tall units to the wall, which is especially sensible in homes with young children. Bring us the delivery boxes and we will do the rest, including clearing away cardboard.
We repair dripping taps, replace toilet mechanisms, reseal baths and showers, fix minor leaks and connect washing machines and dishwashers. We do not carry out boiler or gas work of any kind. For a leak that keeps returning, we will explain what we find and what the options are.
A short description of each job, roughly what sizes or quantities are involved, and a couple of photos if possible. Let us know your address in or around Felton and any days that suit you best. The more detail you share, the better prepared we arrive.
Certainly. Before a sale we often touch up paintwork, fix sticking doors, replace broken handles, tidy gardens and clean patios. These small improvements help a home look cared for when buyers come round. We can work to an estate agent's photo date if you tell us when it is.
