Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information we collect through our website and enquiries, why we collect it, how long we keep it and your rights.

Who we are

Handyman Ashington is a small, family-run handyman business based in Ashington, Northumberland. We are responsible for the personal information described in this notice. You can contact us about privacy using the contact form or by calling 07960 485 880.

Information you give us

When you use the contact form on our website, we collect the details you enter: your name, phone number, email address, town, and the details of the job you would like help with. If you phone us, we may note similar details so we can respond to your enquiry.

We use this information to reply to you, discuss and quote for the work, arrange visits and carry out the job. Our lawful basis is that you have asked us to take steps before entering into a contract with you, and, once you book, to perform that contract. We may also keep basic records where the law requires it, for example for tax purposes.

Information collected when you visit the website

Our website records basic information about visits: the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, your IP address and your browser type. We use this to keep the website secure, to spot and block misuse, and to produce simple statistics about how the site is used. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website. We do not use this information to build marketing profiles.

How long we keep information

We keep information only for as long as we need it. Enquiries that do not lead to work are deleted after a reasonable period. Details relating to jobs we carry out are kept for as long as needed for our records and legal obligations. Website visit logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted or anonymised.

Sharing your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone. We only share it where necessary, for example with a registered electrician or other trade we bring in for part of your job, with service providers who host our website or email, or where the law requires us to.

Keeping information secure

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, and we limit access to those who need it to deal with your enquiry or job.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances;
  • object to or ask us to restrict how we use your information in certain circumstances.

To use any of these rights, contact us through the form or by phone. We will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.
