Blyth · Boxing In Pipework

Boxing in exposed pipework

A typical boxing-in job: heating pipes running along a living room wall and down into the floor, left exposed after a new boiler was fitted, neatly hidden behind a painted box.

Boxing in exposed pipework

The job

After a new boiler or radiator move, homeowners in Blyth and elsewhere are often left with copper pipes running along skirting boards and up walls. In a typical case, pipes run across the living room wall and drop into the floor beside the fireplace. They work perfectly well, but they look unfinished, collect dust and make it awkward to place furniture against the wall.

What we did

We measure the run and plan the boxing so it is as slim as possible while leaving space around the pipes. A timber framework is fixed to the wall and floor, then clad with MDF and finished with a matching skirting profile where it meets the existing skirting. Where there are joints or valves that may need access later, we build in a removable panel. The box is filled, sanded and painted to match the room.

The result

The pipes disappear behind a neat, painted box that looks like part of the room rather than an afterthought. Furniture can sit closer to the wall and cleaning is easier. The access panel means any future work on the valves can be done without pulling the boxing apart. It is a small job that makes a noticeable difference to how finished a room feels.
